Alex Wickham: Exclusive...

Exclusive: Andy Burnham’s economic guru Jim O’Neill says the government should not raise any taxes at the budget “I do not think any further increases in taxes are going to be doing anything to sustain the growth of the economy,” O’Neill tells @BloombergUK after the UK economy beat expectations in July He says in particular the UK should not raise taxes on banks, businesses or oil and gas companies, and that the govt should not try to equalise capital gains tax and income tax “The last thing that should be going on is more taxes on business” On CGT, he says: “It’s not entirely clear it would even raise any money. It’s very misunderstood and the last thing we should be trying to do is deterring genuine risk-taking investment.” And he calls on Burnham to scrap the pensions triple lock: “The triple lock is right at the top of things that are just simply not affordable” Story by @Joe_Mayes :

Carl Benjamin: In response to this article...

In response to this article, Mr Lowe said: “The Telegraph’s obsession with Restore Britain is reaching new levels of hysteria. We are clearly not responsible for what random members of the public say on the internet. “Restore Britain has made our position clear on immigration. We will deport the illegal migrant population, along with those foreign nationals who refuse to work, can’t speak our language, claim benefits, live in social housing, hate our way of life and are a burden on the British people.” He added: “British citizenship will mean something again. The Islamification of our country will end, and immigration from the Third World into Britain will end entirely. That is our position. What anybody else argues is for them. This is where we stand. “Wouldn’t it make a positive change if the Telegraph were to cover our actual policy papers that are released on a regular basis instead of resorting to such boring smears?”

Liz Webster: Dan Hodges says “I do think...

🚨 Dan Hodges says “I do think we are coming to the end of Nigel Farage’s leadership of Reform.” And Julia HB doesn’t even push back. He thinks sleaze is now becoming associated with Reform in the public mind and the scandals are cutting through. This is correct. One controversy can be dismissed as a hit job. Two can be blamed on the establishment. But eventually separate stories begin to form a pattern in voters’ minds.
