Alex Wickham: Andy Burnham and John Healey...
EXCLUSIVE: Andy Burnham and John Healey have been told by the Treasury that the UK economy will barely grow next year if the Strait of Hormuz remains badly disrupted until the end of 2026 The PM and chancellor have been presented with Treasury modelling that sees UK GDP growth at just 0.3% in 2027 if the strait remains blocked this year. The warning complicates the first 18 months of Burnham’s premiership and Healey’s preparations for the budget In a reasonable worst-case scenario modelled by the Treasury, the strait is seen remaining effectively closed for five more months, with no permanent peace deal between the US and Iran until the new year In that scenario, GDP growth for 2026 is seen at 0.9%, below the 1.1% forecast by the OBR in March. But with the impacts taking time to fully filter through, GDP growth for 2027 is then seen at just 0.3%, a sharp downgrade on the 1.6% forecast by the OBR CPI inflation is seen peaking at 4.3% in the first quarter of 2027 in this scenario. It would have fallen to the 2% target if the war hadn’t happened. A further spike in the oil price could raise concerns about financial stability in a worst-case outcome, the Treasury assessments warned They have been shared with Burnham and Healey ahead of the budget on Oct. 28, setting out the economic headwinds that will determine this government’s fortunes If the economy effectively flatlines next year, it would leave Burnham with a battle to show Britons he has materially improved their lives in his first 18 months in power. The warnings also further complicate what is already a challenging budget for Healey. Not only must he find money to fulfil Burnham’s ambitions for more spending, he now also has to factor in a potential growth downgrade and higher inflation While Treasury officials do not necessarily expect the worst-case scenario to happen, they see it as a reasonably likely outcome. Officials calculate that while the future of the conflict is highly uncertain, it is likely that it continues to flare-up in the months ahead, severely disrupting commercial traffic through the straitAdam Brooks: The Establishment will do anything to stop...

The British right wouldn’t be split if Farage was a wiser leader. The existence of Restore Britain is his fault. He should have done everything he could to keep Rupert Lowe in the party and keep it united. The recent attack on Charlie Downes from Farage & Reform has been all over the internet including X. Crickets from Zionist Tommy Robinson. No doubt Tommy also wants Charlie expelled. I think Tommy should be expelled for campaigning for foreign wars on behalf of fake Israel.

"I defeated the far right, and now we must save the country from this existential crisis."Liz Webster: Britain needs a public inquiry...
🆘 Britain needs a public inquiry into foreign interference in our democracy. Not an inquiry designed to overturn Brexit or prove a predetermined theory. An inquiry that follows the evidence wherever it leads. Who funded whom? Who had access to whom? Who ultimately owned the money? What influence operations took place? What did our intelligence services and governments know? And why did Britain allow itself to become a haven for kleptocratic wealth? If there was no material foreign interference, an inquiry can establish that. If there was, the British public has a right to know. Democracy cannot mean “take back control” while refusing to establish who was trying to exert control over us.Aaron Bastani: Andy Burnham says he wants to stop this...

Making the fake right double-down on their full-throated defence of an aggressive foreign country is a great way of isolating them. They do not realise just how unpopular they are. Make them own it.
Liz Webster: This is profoundly alarming...
This is profoundly alarming! Transparency doesn’t mean “trust us, we’ve checked ourselves.” It means giving the public, journalists and civil society enough information to check for themselves. At a time when trust in politics is already dangerously low, Parliament should be increasing scrutiny of money, interests and influence not making scrutiny harder. Democracy isn’t just the right to vote for the people who exercise power. It’s the right to see who is influencing them once they have it. Accountability that can only be performed by the person being held accountable isn’t accountability.Alice Smith: The left aren’t anti-guns...

This is one of a tiny amount of kids that are on these illegal immigrant boats. They aren’t fleeing harm, they’re in a safe country called France & have passed through several safe countries. They are risking this child’s life for benefits & free housing in Britain. End of.Carl Benjamin: I've seen this clip many times...
I've seen this clip many times, now, and Peter Hitchens' lucidity and sincerity never ceases to resonate. He is the one sane man in a madhouse of liberals, trying desperately to get them to understand that our problems are self-made and the system we have created is destroying something not only precious but irreplaceable. Naturally, nobody understood him, and so he is not so much a posh Nostradamus but instead an English Cassandra, doing everything to raise the alarm but forever cursed to cast his pearls before swine. One can feel the desperation in his presentation. When they accuse him of, in fact, hating Britain it becomes clear that they have absolutely no idea what he's talking about. Tragic, frankly.
