John Smith

Harry Leslie Smith (25 February 1923 – 28 November 2018) was an English writer, political commentator, and World War II veteran. He was born in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England, into a poor mining family. He joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1941 and served during World War II, including participating in the occupation of Germany after its defeat. After the war, he emigrated to Canada and worked in commerce before becoming a writer in his later years.

Harry Leslie Smith was a voice for social justice and a critic of austerity policies.
