I know it's a strange thing to say, but I am not despondent about the mid term results. The American right is, in some ways, the victim of its own success with Trump. The ability to slough off the foreign interests and corruption was made impossible because of the victory. Now, the way is opened up to remove these factors for future campaigning so the same mistakes won't be made twice. It's painful but necessary.

Socialism seems to ultimately mean a centralised, rationalised, and fundamentally unnatural order of society, and this is usually adopted by the left because their end goal demands it, but it could also be adopted by the right for other purposes. This is why fascism and nazism haunt the left-wing mind in a way that normal people just don't think about. They want all the groundwork done that could possibly enable fascism, just for their plan. It's completely believable that someone could hijack such a system for other ends.
