Restaurants, cafés and catering establishments. The Brexit promise to escape EU regulations always meant dangerously lower food standards. Traceability and border controls protect the public. Consumers cannot Buy British when they aren’t even told the origin of ingredients used in the food they are served. Brexit Britain has weaker import controls and we have pursued cheaper global food imports. This is destroying food security and putting lives at risk. Food security means food safety too. We should be strengthening British food production and demanding robust equivalence and verification from imports, not treating food regulation as an inconvenience to trade.
